Accounting for dentists, doctors, physiotherapists and massage therapists
You trained to treat patients, not to read a T2. We handle your professional corporation, your clinic’s books and payroll, and your HST, and we tell you plainly how to pay yourself.
Dentists
Associate or practice owner, the questions are the same: incorporate or not, how to pay yourself, and how to keep up with payroll for hygienists and front-desk staff. Dental services are HST-exempt, but some things you sell, such as whitening products or cosmetic-only procedures, may not be.
- Dentistry professional corporation set up and annual T2
- Associate income and expense tracking
- Staff payroll, T4s and remittances
Physicians
Whether you bill OHIP from a solo practice or work across hospitals and clinics, we keep your income streams straight and your corporation compliant.
- Medicine professional corporation, salary vs dividend planning
- Family shareholders, where the rules allow
- Clinic overhead and shared-expense arrangements
Physiotherapists
Physiotherapy is HST-exempt, which means you generally can't claim the HST you pay on equipment and rent. That makes clean books and the right structure matter more.
- Sole proprietor or professional corporation, whichever fits
- Clinic payroll and contractor payments
- Year-end and personal tax in one place
Massage therapists (RMTs)
Here's the one most RMTs ask about: massage therapy is not HST-exempt in Ontario. Once you pass $30,000 in revenue over four quarters you must register, charge 13% and file HST returns, and you can claim back the HST you pay on your costs.
- HST registration, returns and input tax credits
- Self-employed tax return (T2125) or professional corporation
- Simple monthly bookkeeping that fits a one-person practice
HST at a glance

Should you set up a professional corporation?
Regulated health professionals in Ontario can practise through a professional corporation, which needs a certificate of authorization from your College. The benefit comes from leaving profit you don't need right away in the company, where it's taxed at a lower rate. If you spend most of what you earn, the extra annual costs may outweigh it.
We'll run your numbers on the free call and tell you which way to go.

I'm a new associate. Do I need an accountant yet?
If you're paid as an independent contractor, yes. You'll owe tax that isn't withheld, and possibly instalments.
Can my spouse be a shareholder in my professional corporation?
Ontario allows family members to hold non-voting shares in some health professional corporations. Whether dividends to them save tax depends on the "TOSI" rules, which we check before recommending it.
I'm an RMT under $30,000. Do I charge HST?
Not required until you pass the threshold, but registering early can make sense if you have big start-up costs. We'll tell you which is better.
Can you work with my practice-management software?
[confirm]. We work from your deposit and expense records whatever system you use.
Do you work with clinics outside Scarborough?
[confirm service area].
